The Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education is pleased to announce the seventh annual Pennsylvania Computer Science For All (CSforAllPA) Summit will be held December 11-12, 2024 at PaTTAN Harrisburg and online. We are planning a chapter meetup / happy hour on December 11 for a chance to get together, debrief, and decompress after the fall semester. Over the next few months, our friends at the CSTA Susquehanna Valley Chapter will host a series of six engaging professional learning opportunities centered on using Micro:bit in the classroom. Participants will receive an introductory overview of the Micro:bit, followed by breakout discussions that encourage collaboration based on grade bands. Additionally, there will be sessions on how Micro:bit can be utilized for data collection and industry representatives will be invited to share their insights. Stay tuned for specific dates and further details!

Our friends at PaTTAN along with all four PA CSTA chapters are hosting CS book events throughout the area.  We will explore a curated collection of computing oriented books to support learning computer science, and have some networking and conversations with the local chapter membership.

The West Chester Area School District is hosting its 4th Annual Programming Contest at West Chester University on Thursday, March 7 (snow date the next day).  More information can be found here including registration.

CSTA Longwood and the Computer Science Department jointly held a single-day hackathon on Sunday, September 24, which brought together local high school students from Avon Grove and Chichester with CS majors at West Chester University.  Teams created innovated designs and prototypes to address ocean and water pollutions, recovery, and change.  Congratulations to teams Shoreline Sustain and BE from WCU who placed 1st and 2nd in the prototype category.

What are your plans for CS Education Week next week (Dec 5-11)?  The CMU CS Academy will have several workshops, interviews, and projects on display via their Youtube Channel, including Hour of Code Python activities for younger students.  

Our first chapter member event and meeting of the year will be on December 7 from 6-7:30pm in celebration of Computer Science Education Week! (This is rescheduled from 11/14).
